Dr. Tobias Walser

Tobias Walser obtained his doctorate in environmental engineering from ETH Zurich. He then worked on nanomaterial safety at the US Environmental Protection Agency in Cincinnati (OH) and Washington D.C. followed by a position as regulatory risk assessor for new chemicals and advanced materials at the Federal Office of Public Health. During this time, he became European registered toxicologist and contributed, among other topics, to the the development of the regulatory landscape for nanomaterials. Tobias then came back to ETH in 2017 and initially led strategic projects in the President's staff with a focus on health, digital transformation and the future of universities. From 2021 to 2022, Tobias was strategy developer and scientific coordinator of "Zurich Exhalomics", a flagship project of the University Medical Center Zurich, comprising 12 research groups from different research institutions and clinics. The goal of the project is to establish breath analysis in the clinical setting. Since mid-2022, Tobias Walser is coordinator of the ETH Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST), where he and his team manage the department operationally and provide strategic support to the department head.
